This calculator estimates the weight of a square or rectangular hay bale based on its dimensions and the density of the hay.
Learn how to use the Hay Bale Weight Calculator and understand its working principles.
Hay density is an important factor that affects the weight of the bale. It is influenced by the type of hay, its moisture content, and how tightly it is compressed during baling. Drier hay is generally denser and heavier than wetter hay.
For example, if you have a square hay bale with each side measuring 24 inches and the hay density is 30 pounds per cubic foot, the calculation would be:
Volume = 24 inches × 24 inches × 24 inches × 0.0283168 = 41.5788 cubic feet
Weight = 41.5788 cubic feet × 30 pounds per cubic foot = 1247.36 pounds
