Understanding the Formula

The calculator uses the following formula to estimate the towing cost:

Towing Cost = Base Rate + (Distance × Rate per Mile) + Time Surcharge

The base rate is a fixed cost of $20 for all vehicle types. The rate per mile varies depending on the vehicle type:

  • Car: $1.50 per mile
  • SUV: $2.00 per mile
  • Van: $2.50 per mile
  • Truck: $3.00 per mile

The time surcharge depends on when the towing service is requested:

  • Day (8 hours or less): $10
  • Night (after 8 PM): $15
  • Weekend: $20

Example Calculation

For example, if you need to tow a car 10 miles during the day, the calculation would be:

Towing Cost = $20 (Base Rate) + (10 miles × $1.50 per mile) + $10 (Day Surcharge) = $40.00
