Calculate a team's defensive rating based on points allowed per 100 possessions
Learn how to use the NBA Defensive Rating Calculator and its working principles
Defensive Rating (DR) is a measure of a team's defensive efficiency. It represents the number of points a team allows per 100 possessions. The formula is:
DR = (Points Allowed × 100) / Possessions
A lower Defensive Rating indicates a better defensive performance. The league average Defensive Rating typically ranges from 105 to 115.
If a team allows 90 points in 80 possessions, its Defensive Rating would be:
DR = (90 × 100) / 80 = 112.50
This would be considered an average defense based on the interpretation scale provided in the calculator.
