Electricity Cost Calculator Usage Guide

Learn how to use the Electricity Cost Calculator and understand your electricity bills

How to Use This Calculator

  1. Enter your monthly electricity consumption in kWh. This can usually be found on your electricity bill.
  2. Enter your electricity rate per kWh. This is the cost charged for each kilowatt-hour of electricity you use.
  3. Enter your standing charge if applicable. This is a fixed monthly charge regardless of your consumption.
  4. Click the "Calculate" button to see your estimated monthly electricity cost.

Understanding Electricity Bills

Your electricity bill typically consists of two main components:

  • Energy Cost: Based on your actual electricity consumption (measured in kWh).
  • Standing Charge: A fixed monthly fee charged by your utility company.

Example Calculation

Suppose your monthly consumption is 500 kWh, your electricity rate is $0.15/kWh, and you have a standing charge of $20.

Energy Cost: 500 kWh × $0.15/kWh = $75

Total Cost: $75 + $20 = $95
