Calculation Formula

Annual Cost = Usage × Price × (100 / Efficiency)

Where:
Usage: Gallons of propane used per year
Price: Cost per gallon of propane
Efficiency: Percentage of energy used effectively by the appliance

Learn how to use the Propane heat cost calculator calculator and its working principles

How to Use the Calculator

  1. Enter the amount of propane you use per year in gallons.
  2. Enter the current price of propane per gallon.
  3. Set the efficiency of your appliance (typically between 70-90%).
  4. Click the "Calculate" button to see the estimated annual cost.

Understanding the Inputs

The calculator requires three inputs:

  • Propane Usage (gallons per year): The average amount of propane your appliance consumes in a year.
  • Propane Price ($ per gallon): The current cost of propane per gallon in your area.
  • Appliance Efficiency (%): The percentage of propane that is effectively converted into heat by your appliance.

Example Calculation

If you use 500 gallons of propane per year at $2.50 per gallon with an appliance efficiency of 85%, your annual heating cost would be:

$500 × $2.50 × (100 / 85) = $1,470.59
