Fill Time Calculation

Fill Time = (Tank Volume × (Target Pressure - Current Pressure)) ÷ Compressor Flow Rate

Where:
Tank Volume - The total volume of the compressed air tank
Target Pressure - The desired pressure level to reach
Current Pressure - The starting pressure in the tank
Compressor Flow Rate - The rate at which the compressor delivers air (cu ft per minute)

Air Compressor Fill Time Calculator Usage Guide

Learn how to use the calculator to determine compressed air fill times

How to Use This Calculator

  1. Enter the volume of your compressed air tank in cubic feet (cu ft)
  2. Input the current pressure in the tank in PSI (pounds per square inch)
  3. Specify the target pressure you want to reach in PSI
  4. Enter the compressor's flow rate in cubic feet per minute (cfm)
  5. Click the "Calculate" button to determine the fill time and volume of air needed

Understanding the Results

The calculator provides two key results:

  • Fill Time: The estimated time in minutes required to reach the target pressure
  • Air Volume Added: The total volume of air (in cubic feet) that will be added to the tank

Example Calculation

Suppose you have a 10 cu ft tank with a current pressure of 30 PSI, and you want to fill it to 150 PSI using a compressor with a flow rate of 5 cfm:

Fill Time = (10 cu ft × (150 PSI - 30 PSI)) ÷ 5 cfm = 240 minutes

This means it would take approximately 4 hours to fill the tank to your desired pressure.

Important Notes

This calculator provides an estimate based on ideal conditions. Actual fill times may vary due to factors such as:

  • Compressor efficiency
  • Temperature changes affecting air density
  • Pressure relief valve operation
  • Leakage in the system
