How to Use the Calculator
- Enter the Wheel Circumference in meters. This is the distance the wheel travels in one complete revolution.
- Enter the Vehicle Speed in km/h. This is the speed of the vehicle.
- Click the Calculate button to compute the engine RPM.
- The result will be displayed in the RPM field.
Understanding the Formula
The calculator uses the following formula to calculate RPM:
RPM = (Vehicle Speed × 1000) / (Wheel Circumference × 60)
This formula works because:
- 1 km = 1000 meters
- 1 hour = 60 minutes
- So, if you travel 1000 meters in 1 hour at a constant speed, you're traveling 1000/60 meters per minute.
- Since the wheel travels its circumference in one revolution, dividing the distance traveled per minute by the wheel circumference gives you the number of revolutions per minute.
Example
If your car has a wheel circumference of 2.15 meters and you're driving at 60 km/h:
RPM = (60 × 1000) / (2.15 × 60) = 1000 / 2.15 ≈ 465.12 RPM
Applications
This calculator can be used for:
- Understanding how vehicle speed affects engine RPM
- Estimating engine RPM at different speeds
- Comparing the performance of different vehicles
- Understanding gear ratios and engine tuning
