Understanding MET Values
MET (Metabolic Equivalent of Task) is a unit that estimates the energy cost of physical activities. A MET value of 1.0 represents the energy cost of sitting quietly. The MET values used in this calculator are based on general exercise intensity levels:
- Low Intensity (1-2 reps per side): MET = 3.0
- Medium Intensity (3-4 reps per side): MET = 4.0
- High Intensity (5+ reps per side): MET = 5.0
Example Calculation
For a 70 kg person performing Russian twists for 10 minutes at medium intensity (3.0 METs) in 3 sets:
Calories burned = (3.0 × 70 × 10 × 3.5) / 200 = 47.25 kcal
