How to Use This Calculator
- Select whether you want to convert from Absorbance to Transmittance or vice versa using the radio buttons.
- If converting from Absorbance:
- Enter the absorbance value in the input field.
- Click the "Calculate" button.
- The calculator will display the corresponding transmittance value (as a percentage).
- If converting from Transmittance:
- Enter the transmittance value (as a percentage) in the result field for transmittance (you can enter 0-100).
- Click the "Calculate" button.
- The calculator will display the corresponding absorbance value.
- Click "Reset" to clear all input fields and results.
Working Principle
The relationship between absorbance (A) and transmittance (T) follows the Beer-Lambert Law:
A = -log10T
Where T is the transmittance (expressed as a fraction between 0 and 1, or as a percentage between 0% and 100%).
This calculator uses the formula T = 10-A to convert absorbance to transmittance, and A = -log10T to convert transmittance to absorbance.
When to Use This Calculator
- When working with spectrophotometric data in chemistry, biology, and environmental science.
- For calculating the concentration of substances in solution based on their absorbance.
- When analyzing experimental data requiring conversion between absorbance and transmittance scales.
- For educational purposes to understand the relationship between these two important optical parameters.
