Learn how to use the Absorbance to Transmittance Converter calculator and its working principles

How to Use This Calculator

  1. Select whether you want to convert from Absorbance to Transmittance or vice versa using the radio buttons.
  2. If converting from Absorbance:
    • Enter the absorbance value in the input field.
    • Click the "Calculate" button.
    • The calculator will display the corresponding transmittance value (as a percentage).
  3. If converting from Transmittance:
    • Enter the transmittance value (as a percentage) in the result field for transmittance (you can enter 0-100).
    • Click the "Calculate" button.
    • The calculator will display the corresponding absorbance value.
  4. Click "Reset" to clear all input fields and results.

Working Principle

The relationship between absorbance (A) and transmittance (T) follows the Beer-Lambert Law:

A = -log10T

Where T is the transmittance (expressed as a fraction between 0 and 1, or as a percentage between 0% and 100%).

This calculator uses the formula T = 10-A to convert absorbance to transmittance, and A = -log10T to convert transmittance to absorbance.

When to Use This Calculator

  • When working with spectrophotometric data in chemistry, biology, and environmental science.
  • For calculating the concentration of substances in solution based on their absorbance.
  • When analyzing experimental data requiring conversion between absorbance and transmittance scales.
  • For educational purposes to understand the relationship between these two important optical parameters.
