PPM to Molarity Converter

PPM to Molarity Converter calculator can be used to convert parts per million (PPM) concentrations to molarity (M) for chemical solutions.

Input Parameters

Calculation Results

Calculation Formula

Molarity (M) = (PPM / (106 × Density)) × Molar Mass

Where:
Molarity (M) = moles of solute per liter of solution
PPM = parts per million
Density = mass of solution per unit volume
Molar Mass = mass of one mole of the solute

PPM to Molarity Converter Calculator Usage Guide

Learn how to use the PPM to Molarity Converter calculator and its working principles

How to Use the Calculator

  1. Enter the concentration in parts per million (PPM).
  2. Enter the molar mass of the solute in grams per mole (g/mol).
  3. Enter the density of the solution in grams per milliliter (g/mL).
  4. Click the "Calculate" button to convert PPM to Molarity.
  5. The result will be displayed in moles per liter (M).

Working Principle

The calculator uses the following formula to convert PPM to Molarity:

Molarity (M) = (PPM / (106 × Density)) × Molar Mass

Where:

  • Molarity (M) is the concentration of the solution in moles per liter.
  • PPM is the concentration of the solute in parts per million.
  • Density is the mass of the solution per unit volume.
  • Molar Mass is the mass of one mole of the solute.

Example

Suppose you have a solution with a concentration of 5000 ppm, a molar mass of 35.45 g/mol (for chloride ions), and a density of 1.00 g/mL. The molarity would be calculated as follows:

Molarity = (5000 / (106 × 1.00)) × 35.45

Molarity = 0.005 × 35.45 = 0.17725 M
