How to Use the Calculator
- Enter the volume of material in cubic yards in the "Volume (Cubic Yards)" field.
- Enter the density of the material in pounds per cubic yard in the "Material Density" field. Default is set for gravel (100 lbs/yd³).
- Click the "Calculate" button to compute the weight in tons and pounds.
- The result will be displayed in both tons and pounds.
Common Material Densities
- Gravel: 100-125 lbs/yd³
- Topsoil: 80-90 lbs/yd³
- Sand: 100-110 lbs/yd³
- Concrete: 150 lbs/yd³
- Pea Gravel: 90-100 lbs/yd³
Example Calculation
If you need to calculate the weight of 5 cubic yards of gravel with a density of 110 lbs/yd³:
Weight (tons) = 5 yd³ × 110 lbs/yd³ ÷ 2000 = 0.275 tons
