Yards to Tons Calculator

Convert volume in cubic yards to weight in tons for materials like sand, gravel, and concrete

Input Parameters

Default for gravel is 100 lbs/yd³. Adjust for different materials.

Calculation Results

Calculation Formula

Weight (Tons) = Volume (yd³) × Density (lbs/yd³) ÷ 2000

Where:
Volume (yd³) = Cubic yards of material
Density (lbs/yd³) = Weight per cubic yard of material
2000 = Pounds per ton

Result

Weight (Tons): 0.00

Weight (Pounds): 0.00

Learn how to use the Yards to Tons Calculator for material estimation

How to Use the Calculator

  1. Enter the volume of material in cubic yards in the "Volume (Cubic Yards)" field.
  2. Enter the density of the material in pounds per cubic yard in the "Material Density" field. Default is set for gravel (100 lbs/yd³).
  3. Click the "Calculate" button to compute the weight in tons and pounds.
  4. The result will be displayed in both tons and pounds.

Common Material Densities

  • Gravel: 100-125 lbs/yd³
  • Topsoil: 80-90 lbs/yd³
  • Sand: 100-110 lbs/yd³
  • Concrete: 150 lbs/yd³
  • Pea Gravel: 90-100 lbs/yd³

Example Calculation

If you need to calculate the weight of 5 cubic yards of gravel with a density of 110 lbs/yd³:

Weight (tons) = 5 yd³ × 110 lbs/yd³ ÷ 2000 = 0.275 tons

Applications

This calculator is useful for:
