How to Use the Calculator
- Enter the weight of the whole turkey in pounds in the "Turkey Weight" field.
- Select the sex of the turkey (male or female).
- Click the "Calculate" button to estimate the usable meat yield and boneless, skinless yield.
- The results will be displayed in the "Calculation Results" section.
Understanding the Results
The calculator provides two main results:
- Estimated Usable Meat Yield: This is the total amount of meat that can be obtained from the whole turkey, including skin and bones.
- Estimated Boneless, Skinless Yield: This is the amount of meat you would get after removing the skin and bones, which is suitable for recipes that require boneless, skinless turkey.
Calculation Formula
The calculator uses the following formula to estimate the usable meat yield:
Usable meat yield = Turkey Weight × Yield Percentage
The yield percentage varies based on the sex of the turkey. Male turkeys generally have a higher yield due to their larger size and different anatomical structure.
