Calculation Formula

Cost = Distance ÷ Fuel Efficiency × Fuel Price

Where:
Distance = Total distance of the trip in miles
Fuel Efficiency = Miles per gallon your vehicle gets
Fuel Price = Cost per gallon of fuel

Gas Calculator Calculator Usage Guide

Learn how to use the Gas Calculator to estimate fuel costs for your trips.

How to Use the Gas Calculator

  1. Enter the total distance of your trip in miles (e.g., 150 for 150 miles).
  2. Enter your vehicle's fuel efficiency in miles per gallon (mpg) (e.g., 25 for 25 mpg).
  3. Enter the current price of fuel per gallon (e.g., 3.50 for $3.50 per gallon).
  4. Click the "Calculate" button to see the estimated fuel cost and gallons needed.
  5. Click "Reset" to clear all inputs and start over.

Understanding the Results

The calculator provides two key results:

  • Estimated Fuel Cost: The total cost of fuel for your trip based on the distance, fuel efficiency, and current fuel price.
  • Gallons of Fuel Needed: The total amount of fuel required for your trip.

Example Calculation

For example, if you're planning a 300-mile trip in a car that gets 30 mpg, and the fuel price is $4.00 per gallon:

  1. Distance = 300 miles
  2. Fuel Efficiency = 30 mpg
  3. Fuel Price = $4.00 per gallon
  4. Gallons Needed = 300 ÷ 30 = 10 gallons
  5. Cost = 10 × $4.00 = $40.00

Important Notes

  • This calculator provides an estimate based on the inputs provided. Actual costs may vary.
  • The fuel efficiency of your vehicle may vary depending on driving conditions and vehicle maintenance.
  • Always check current fuel prices before planning your trip.
