Understanding the Formula

The efficiency of the kettle is calculated using the following formula:

Efficiency (%) = (Energy Output / (Power Input × Time)) × 100

Where:

  • Efficiency (%) is the percentage efficiency of the kettle.
  • Energy Output (kWh) is the total energy produced by the kettle.
  • Power Input (W) is the power consumed by the kettle.
  • Time (h) is the duration the kettle has been operating.

Interpreting the Results

An efficiency of 100% means the kettle is using all the energy it consumes to produce heat, with no energy losses. Real-world efficiencies are typically less than 100% due to various energy losses such as heat dissipation to the environment.

For example, if a kettle with a power input of 2000W operates for 1 hour and produces 1.8 kWh of energy, the efficiency would be:

Efficiency = (1.8 / (2000 × 1)) × 100 = 90%

This means the kettle is using 90% of the energy it consumes to produce heat, with the remaining 10% lost to the environment.
