Calculation Formula

Efficiency (%) = (Output Power / Input Power) × 100

Where:
Output Power - The electrical power delivered to the device (Watts)
Input Power - The electrical power consumed by the power supply (Watts)

Power Supply Efficiency Calculator Usage Guide

Learn how to use the Power Supply Efficiency Calculator and its working principles

How to Use This Calculator

  1. Enter the Output Power of your power supply in watts. This is the electrical power delivered to your device.
  2. Enter the Input Power of your power supply in watts. This is the electrical power consumed by the power supply itself.
  3. Click the Calculate button to compute the efficiency and efficiency class.
  4. The calculator will display the efficiency percentage and classify the efficiency based on 80 PLUS standards.

Understanding Power Supply Efficiency

Power supply efficiency is a measure of how effectively a power supply converts electrical power from the wall outlet to power your devices. It is expressed as a percentage.

Efficiency Classes (Based on 80 PLUS Standards)

  • Gold: 90% or higher efficiency
  • Platinum: 85% to 89.9% efficiency
  • White (Bronze): 80% to 84.9% efficiency
  • Bronze: 70% to 79.9% efficiency
  • None: Below 70% efficiency

Higher efficiency power supplies waste less energy as heat, which can lead to lower electricity bills and reduced environmental impact.
