Calculation Formula

CT Ratio = Primary Current / Secondary Current

Where:
Primary Current (A) - The current in the primary side of the CT
Secondary Current (A) - The current in the secondary side of the CT
CT Ratio - The ratio of primary current to secondary current

Learn how to use the CT ratio calculator calculator and its working principles

How to Use the CT Ratio Calculator

  1. Enter the primary current in amperes (A) in the "Primary Current" field.
  2. Enter the secondary current in amperes (A) in the "Secondary Current" field.
  3. Click the "Calculate" button to compute the CT ratio and other values.
  4. The calculator will display the CT ratio (Primary/Secondary), the calculated secondary current, and the calculated primary current.
  5. If you want to start over, click the "Reset" button to clear all input fields.

Working Principle

A Current Transformer (CT) is a device that produces a reduced current accurately proportional to the current in the circuit, which is being measured. The CT ratio is the ratio of the primary current to the secondary current and is usually expressed as Primary Current / Secondary Current.

Example

Suppose you have a CT with a primary current of 1000A and a secondary current of 5A. The CT ratio would be:

CT Ratio = 1000A / 5A = 200

This means that the primary current is 200 times larger than the secondary current.
