Time Domain Reflectometry Length Calculator

Time Domain Reflectometry Length Calculator calculator can be used to determine the length of a cable or waveguide based on the time delay of a reflected pulse.

Input Parameters

Calculation Results

Calculation Formula

Length (L) = (Velocity of Propagation × Time Delay) / 2

Where:
L = Length of the cable or waveguide (m)
Velocity of Propagation = Speed at which the signal travels through the medium (m/s)
Time Delay = Time taken for the signal to travel to the end and reflect back (s)

Time Domain Reflectometry Length Calculator Calculator Usage Guide

Learn how to use the Time Domain Reflectometry Length Calculator calculator and its working principles

How to Use the Calculator

  1. Enter the velocity of propagation of the medium in meters per second (m/s).
  2. Enter the time delay of the reflected pulse in seconds (s).
  3. Click the "Calculate" button to compute the length of the cable or waveguide.
  4. The result will be displayed in meters (m).

Working Principle

Time Domain Reflectometry (TDR) measures the time it takes for a signal to travel to the end of a cable or waveguide and reflect back. By knowing the velocity of propagation and the time delay, the length of the cable or waveguide can be calculated using the formula:

Length (L) = (Velocity of Propagation × Time Delay) / 2

This formula accounts for the round trip of the signal (to the end and back).
