Convert cord measurements to tons (pulpwood or firewood) based on wood density
Learn how to use the Cords to Tons Calculator calculator and its working principles
A cord is a unit of firewood volume measuring 8 feet long by 4 feet wide by 4 feet high (128 cubic feet). However, firewood is often sold by "face cord" (just 8' x 4'), so always clarify what measurement is being used.
If you have a full cord of pine wood with a density of 40 lbs/cu ft:
Volume = 8 ft × 4 ft × 4 ft = 128 cu ft
Weight = 128 cu ft × 40 lbs/cu ft = 5120 lbs = 2.56 tons
