How to Use This Calculator
- Enter the diameter of your log in inches (measured at the small end for tapered logs)
- Enter the length of your log in feet
- Select the wood species from the dropdown menu (if unsure, select "Other")
- Click the "Calculate" button to get the estimated weight
- Use the "Reset" button to clear all inputs and start over
Understanding Green Log Weight
Green logs (logs that have not been dried) typically weigh significantly more than dried logs due to the moisture content.
This calculator uses standard log scaling formulas to estimate the weight based on volume and species density.
Important Notes
- The weight calculated is an estimate and may vary based on actual wood density, moisture content, and log shape.
- Diameter should be measured in inches at the small end of the log (pith end) for tapered logs.
- Length should be measured in feet from the small end to the large end for tapered logs, or from end to end for straight logs.
- Different species have different densities, which is why selecting the correct species is important for accurate estimation.
