How to Use This Calculator
- Enter the total planting area in square meters. For example, if you're planting in a rectangular garden that's 5 meters long and 4 meters wide, the area would be 20 square meters.
- Set your desired seed density. A common range for sunflowers is 2-5 seeds per square meter, depending on whether you want them to grow closer together or more spread out.
- Select the type of sunflower seeds you are using, as different types have different sizes and planting requirements.
- Click the "Calculate" button to see how many seeds you need and what size packaging would be most appropriate.
Understanding Your Results
The calculator provides two key results:
- Total Number of Seeds Needed: This is the total quantity of seeds required for your planting area.
- Estimated Packaging Size: Based on common seed packaging sizes, this tells you how many bags you'll need to purchase.
Planting Tips
Sunflower seeds can be planted directly in the ground after the last frost, or started indoors several weeks before the last frost. They prefer full sun and well-drained soil. For best results, plant seeds 1 inch deep and 6 inches apart from each other.
