Understanding the Formula

The area of a trapezoid is calculated using the formula:

Area = (Base1 + Base2) * Height / 2

This formula adds the lengths of the two parallel sides, multiplies the sum by the height, and then divides the result by 2 to find the area.

Example

For instance, if Base 1 is 5 units, Base 2 is 7 units, and the height is 4 units, the area of the trapezoid would be:

Area = (5 + 7) * 4 / 2 = 24 square units
