Kidney Function Conversion Calculator Uric Acid Creatinine Blood Urea Nitrogen Calculator Usage Guide

Learn how to use the calculator and understand the significance of the parameters for assessing kidney health

How to Use This Calculator

  1. Enter your current blood test values for Uric Acid, Creatinine, and Blood Urea Nitrogen in mg/dL.
  2. Input your age, select your gender, and provide your weight in kilograms.
  3. Click the "Calculate" button to get your kidney function assessment.
  4. The calculator will display your estimated Glomerular Filtration Rate (eGFR), Creatinine Clearance, and Blood Urea Nitrogen Ratio.
  5. It will also provide an assessment of your kidney function status based on the eGFR value.

Understanding the Parameters

Uric Acid

Uric acid is a waste product formed when the body breaks down purines, which are found in certain foods and drinks. Elevated levels can indicate kidney dysfunction or conditions like gout.

Creatinine

Creatinine is a waste product from muscle metabolism. Its levels in the blood can indicate how well the kidneys are filtering waste products from the blood.

Blood Urea Nitrogen (BUN)

BUN is a waste product formed from the breakdown of protein. Its levels can be affected by kidney function, but also by other factors like dehydration and protein intake.

Calculation Formulas

eGFR Calculation (CKD-EPI Equation)

For men: eGFR = 144 × (sCr/88.4)-1.23 × (Age)-0.203

For women: eGFR = 144 × (sCr/88.4)-1.154 × (Age)-0.203 × 0.742

Where sCr = serum creatinine concentration in mg/dL

Creatinine Clearance (CC)

CC = (sCr × 70) / 88.4

Where sCr = serum creatinine concentration in mg/dL

Interpreting Results

  • eGFR ≥ 90 mL/min/1.73m²: Normal kidney function
  • 60 ≤ eGFR < 90 mL/min/1.73m²: Mildly decreased kidney function
  • 30 ≤ eGFR < 60 mL/min/1.73m²: Moderately decreased kidney function
  • 15 ≤ eGFR < 30 mL/min/1.73m²: Severely decreased kidney function
  • eGFR < 15 mL/min/1.73m²: Stage 5 CKD (End-Stage Renal Disease)

Note: These are general guidelines. Your doctor should interpret your results in the context of your overall health and medical history.
