How to Use the Relative Risk Calculator
- Enter the number of cases in the exposed group (a) and the total number in the exposed group (b).
- Enter the number of cases in the unexposed group (c) and the total number in the unexposed group (d).
- Click the "Calculate" button to compute the relative risk (RR).
- The calculator will also provide an interpretation of the result.
Understanding Relative Risk (RR)
Relative Risk (RR) is a measure used in epidemiology to determine the strength of the association between exposure and an outcome. It compares the risk of an event occurring in an exposed group to the risk of the event occurring in an unexposed group.
Formula:
RR = (a / c) / (b / d)
Where:
- a = Number of cases in the exposed group
- b = Total number in the exposed group
- c = Number of cases in the unexposed group
- d = Total number in the unexposed group
Interpretation of Results
- RR < 1: The risk of the event is lower in the exposed group.
- RR = 1: There is no difference in risk between the exposed and unexposed groups.
- RR > 1: The risk of the event is higher in the exposed group.
