How to Use the Calculator

1. Enter the original bill amount in the "Bill Amount" field.
2. The "Tax Rate" field is pre-filled with a typical 8.25% tax rate, but you can adjust it if needed.
3. Enter the desired tip rate in the "Tip Rate" field. A common tip rate is 15%.
4. Click the "Calculate" button to compute the subtotal, tip amount, and total bill.
5. Use the "Reset" button to clear all fields and start over.

Understanding the Calculation

The calculator works by first calculating the tax amount based on the bill amount and tax rate. Then, it adds the tax to the original bill amount to get the subtotal. Next, it calculates the tip amount based on the subtotal and tip rate. Finally, it adds the tip to the subtotal to get the total bill.

The formula used is:

Total = Bill Amount × (1 + Tax Rate/100) × (1 + Tip Rate/100)

Example

If your bill is $50 with an 8.25% tax rate and a 15% tip rate:

• Subtotal (Bill + Tax): $50 × (1 + 8.25/100) = $53.63
• Tip Amount: $53.63 × 15/100 = $8.05
• Total Bill: $53.63 + $8.05 = $61.68
