Calculation Formula

Output Volume = π × (dnozzle²/4) × Feed Rate × Extraction Time

Where:
π = 3.14159
dnozzle = Nozzle Diameter
Feed Rate = Extrusion Speed
Extraction Time = Time of extrusion

Extruder Output Calculator Calculator Usage Guide

Learn how to use the Extruder Output Calculator and its working principles

How to Use the Calculator

  1. Enter the Nozzle Diameter of your extruder in millimeters.
  2. Input the Filament Diameter of the material you're using (e.g., 1.75mm for PLA).
  3. Set the Feed Rate in millimeters per second, which is the speed at which the filament is fed into the nozzle.
  4. Specify the Extraction Time in seconds for which the extrusion is performed.
  5. Click the Calculate button to compute the output volume and flow rate.

Understanding the Results

The calculator provides two key results:

  • Output Volume (mm³): The total volume of material extruded during the specified time.
  • Flow Rate (mm³/s): The rate at which material is flowing through the nozzle.

Principle of Calculation

The calculator uses the formula for the volume of a cylinder (V = πr²h) where:

  • r = Nozzle radius (diameter/2)
  • h = Feed rate × Extraction time

This gives the volume of material passing through the nozzle during the extraction time.

Applications

This calculator is useful for:

  • 3D printing enthusiasts to optimize print settings
  • Industrial manufacturers to control material extrusion
  • Material scientists to study flow characteristics
  • Comparing different extrusion profiles and settings
