Learn how to use the Bags of Mulch Calculator calculator and its working principles

How to Use the Calculator

  1. Enter the area you want to cover in square feet.
  2. Input the desired mulch depth in inches.
  3. Select the size of the mulch bags you are using (common sizes are 1, 2, or 3 cubic feet).
  4. Click the "Calculate" button to determine the number of bags needed.

Example

If you want to cover an area of 100 square feet with a mulch depth of 3 inches using bags of 2 cubic feet each:

  • Total cubic feet needed = 100 sq ft * 3 in / 12 in/ft = 25 cubic feet
  • Total bags needed = 25 cubic feet / 2 cubic feet/bag = 13 bags

Since you can't buy a fraction of a bag, you would need to purchase 13 bags of mulch.
