How to use the calculator
- Enter the total length of your fence in feet in the "Fence Length" field.
- Enter the desired distance between fence posts in the "Post Spacing" field. Common spacings include 6 feet, 8 feet, or 10 feet.
- Click the "Calculate" button to determine the number of fence posts needed.
- The calculator will automatically round up to the nearest whole number since you can't have a fraction of a fence post.
Important considerations
- The calculation includes the post at the beginning and the post at the end of the fence.
- The number of posts needed is always one more than the number of spaces between them.
- For example, if you have a 100-foot fence with 10-foot spacing, you will need 11 posts (10 spaces between 11 posts).
- Consider adding an extra post at any corners or gates in your fence.
Formula explanation
The formula used is: Number of posts = (Fence Length / Post Spacing) + 1
This accounts for the initial post and adds one more post for each section of fence at the specified spacing.
