How to Use the Calculator
- Enter the Total Rise (the vertical height from the bottom to the top of the staircase) in centimeters.
- Enter the Rise per Step (the height of each individual step) in centimeters.
- Enter the Run per Step (the horizontal depth of each step) in centimeters.
- Click the Calculate button to compute the number of steps and the total horizontal length of the staircase.
- Use the Reset button to clear all inputs and start over.
Understanding Staircase Dimensions
The calculator uses the following formula to determine the staircase length:
Stair Length = Number of Steps × Run per Step
Where:
- Number of Steps is calculated by dividing the Total Rise by the Rise per Step.
- Run per Step is the horizontal distance from the front of one step to the front of the next step.
Important Considerations
For safety and comfort, staircase dimensions should comply with building codes and ergonomic standards. Typically:
- Stair rise per step should be between 18-20 cm.
- Stair run per step should be between 25-30 cm.
- The total rise should be divisible by the rise per step for a uniform staircase.
Note: This calculator provides basic staircase length calculations. Always consult with a professional for complex staircases or specific building requirements.
