Service Level Calculator Calculator Usage Guide

Learn how to use the Service Level Calculator calculator and its working principles

How to Use the Calculator

  1. Enter the Total Time in hours. For example, use 8760 for a full year (24 hours/day * 365 days).
  2. Enter the Down Time in hours. This is the total time the service was unavailable during the measurement period.
  3. Click the Calculate button to compute the uptime percentage and availability status.
  4. Review the results and the formula used for the calculation.

Understanding the Results

The calculator provides two key outputs:

  • Uptime Percentage: This is the percentage of time the service was operational during the measured period.
  • Availability Status: Based on the uptime percentage, the calculator categorizes the service availability as Excellent, Good, Fair, or Poor.

Example Scenario

Suppose you want to evaluate a service's uptime over a full year (8760 hours). If the service was down for 72 hours (3 days) during that year, you would enter 8760 for Total Time and 72 for Down Time. The calculator would then show an uptime percentage of approximately 99.20% and categorize the availability as "Good."
