How to use the calculator
- Enter the spindle speed in RPM (Rotations Per Minute) - this is how fast the spindle is rotating.
- Enter the cutter diameter in millimeters (mm) - the diameter of your cutting tool.
- Enter the feed per tooth in millimeters per tooth (mm/tooth) - how much the cutter moves for each tooth per revolution.
- Click the "Calculate" button to compute the feed rate and surface speed.
- Use the "Reset" button to clear all inputs and start over.
Understanding the Results
The calculator provides two key results:
- Feed Rate: This is the linear speed at which the cutter moves through the material, measured in mm/min. It determines how fast your cut will be completed.
- Surface Speed: This is the speed at which the cutting edge moves across the workpiece surface, measured in mm/min. It's an important factor in determining tool wear and surface finish quality.
Practical Applications
This calculator is particularly useful for CNC machining operations such as:
- Milling operations
- Turning operations
- Drilling operations
By adjusting the feed rate, you can optimize your machining process for efficiency, tool life, and surface finish quality.
Important Considerations
Remember that higher feed rates can improve productivity but may reduce tool life and surface quality. It's important to consult machine tool manuals and material specifications to determine appropriate feed rates for your specific application.
