Understanding Batting Average

Batting Average (BA) is a fundamental statistic in baseball that measures a player's performance. It is calculated by dividing the number of hits by the number of at-bats.

Formula

BA = Hits / At-Bats

Example

If a player has 400 at-bats and 150 hits, their batting average would be:

BA = 150 / 400 = 0.375

Interpretation

A higher batting average indicates better performance. In Major League Baseball, a batting average above 0.300 is generally considered good, while above 0.350 is exceptional.
