How to Use This Calculator
This calculator helps you find any of the three values (distance, rate/speed, or time) when you know any two of them. The formula used is:
Distance = Rate × Time
Instructions
- Enter any two values (Distance, Rate/Speed, or Time)
- Click the "Calculate" button
- The calculator will automatically calculate and display the missing value
Examples
- Example 1: If you drove at a speed of 60 miles per hour for 3 hours, what distance did you cover?
Input: Rate = 60, Time = 3
Calculation: Distance = 60 × 3 = 180 miles
- Example 2: If you traveled 150 kilometers and took 3 hours, what was your average speed?
Input: Distance = 150, Time = 3
Calculation: Rate = 150 ÷ 3 = 50 km/h
- Example 3: If you need to travel 200 miles at a speed of 50 miles per hour, how long will it take?
Input: Distance = 200, Rate = 50
Calculation: Time = 200 ÷ 50 = 4 hours
Working Principle
The calculator uses the fundamental relationship between distance, rate, and time:
Distance = Rate × Time
From this formula, we can derive:
- Rate = Distance ÷ Time
- Time = Distance ÷ Rate
This relationship allows you to calculate any one of these three variables when you know the other two.
