Understanding Kilograms Per Hectare

Kilograms per hectare (kg/ha) is a unit of measurement used to express the application rate of fertilizers, pesticides, or other agricultural inputs per unit area. It represents how many kilograms of the material are applied to each hectare of land.

For example, if the recommendation is 100 kg/ha of nitrogen fertilizer, it means you need to apply 100 kilograms of nitrogen for every hectare of your field.

Example Calculation

Suppose you have a 5-hectare field, and the recommended application rate is 150 kg/ha of phosphorus fertilizer:

• Area = 5 hectares
• Application Rate = 150 kg/ha
• Total Application = 5 × 150 = 750 kg

In this case, you would need to apply a total of 750 kilograms of phosphorus fertilizer to your field.
