How to Use the LVMI Calculator
- Enter your heart rate in beats per minute.
- Enter your systolic blood pressure in millimeters of mercury (mmHg).
- Enter your diastolic blood pressure in millimeters of mercury (mmHg).
- Enter your height in centimeters (cm).
- Enter your weight in kilograms (kg).
- Select your sex (Male or Female).
- Click the "Calculate" button to compute your LVMI, Left Ventricular Mass (LVM), and Body Surface Area (BSA).
Understanding the Results
The calculator provides the following results:
- Left Ventricular Mass (LVM): The estimated mass of the left ventricle of your heart in grams.
- Body Surface Area (BSA): Your body surface area in square meters, used as a normalization factor.
- LVMI: The Left Ventricular Mass Index, calculated as LVM divided by BSA squared (g/m²).
- LVMI Classification: Based on ASE/EACVI guidelines, the calculator classifies your LVMI as normal, borderline, mild, moderate, or severe hypertrophy.
Interpreting the Classification
The LVMI classification helps assess the risk of heart hypertrophy:
- Normal (LVH not present): LVMI is below the threshold for hypertrophy.
- Borderline: LVMI is between the normal and hypertrophy thresholds.
- Mild Hypertrophy: LVMI is moderately elevated.
- Moderate Hypertrophy: LVMI is significantly elevated.
- Severe Hypertrophy: LVMI is extremely elevated, indicating high risk.
Limitations
This calculator provides an estimation of LVMI based on clinical parameters. It is not a diagnostic tool and should not replace professional medical advice. Always consult with a healthcare provider for a comprehensive cardiovascular evaluation.
