Total Work Calculator calculator can be used to calculate the total work done by a force acting on an object over a distance.
Learn how to use the Total Work Calculator calculator and its working principles
Total work is the amount of energy transferred to or from an object by a force. It is calculated as the product of the force, the distance over which it acts, and the cosine of the angle between them. This formula accounts for the fact that only the component of the force in the direction of the displacement does work.
Suppose a force of 10 N is applied to move an object 5 m in the same direction as the force. The work done would be:
Work = 10 N × 5 m × cos(0°) = 50 J
If the force is applied at an angle of 30° to the displacement, the work done would be:
Work = 10 N × 5 m × cos(30°) ≈ 43.3 J
