ABPI Index Calculator

The ABPI Index (Arterial Blood Pressure Index) helps assess circulatory health by comparing systolic and diastolic blood pressure measurements. It's particularly useful for detecting peripheral artery disease.

ABPI Index Calculator Usage Guide

Learn how to use the ABPI Index Calculator and understand its significance in cardiovascular assessment

What is ABPI?

The Arterial Blood Pressure Index (ABPI) is a simple but valuable clinical measurement that helps assess peripheral circulation. It's calculated by dividing systolic blood pressure by diastolic blood pressure.

How to Use This Calculator

  1. Enter the patient's systolic blood pressure in mmHg
  2. Enter the patient's diastolic blood pressure in mmHg
  3. Input the patient's age in years
  4. Select the patient's gender
  5. Click the "Calculate" button to compute the ABPI index and see the interpretation

Interpreting Results

  • ABPI < 0.9: Indicates possible peripheral artery disease (PAD) or severe arterial occlusion. Requires further investigation.
  • ABPI = 0.9 to 1.1: Normal range suggesting adequate arterial perfusion.
  • ABPI > 1.1: May indicate conditions like aortic regurgitation or other cardiovascular issues.

Important Notes

The ABPI is a screening tool and should not replace clinical judgment. Always consider the patient's overall clinical picture when interpreting results. This calculator provides general guidance only and is not a substitute for professional medical advice.
