How to Use the Calculator

  1. Enter the oxygen consumption in ml/kg/min in the "Oxygen Consumption" field.
  2. Enter your body weight in kg in the "Body Weight" field.
  3. Click the "Calculate" button to compute the METS value.
  4. The result will be displayed in the "Result (METS)" field.

Understanding METS

METS (Metabolic Equivalents of Task) is a way to measure the energy cost of physical activities. One MET is defined as the energy cost of sitting at rest, which is approximately 1 kcal/kg/hour or 3.5 ml O2/kg/min. Activities that require more energy than sitting at rest will have a METS value greater than 1.

Example

If your oxygen consumption during an activity is 5.0 ml/kg/min, your METS value would be 5.0. This indicates that the activity is five times more intense than sitting at rest.
