Cat Benadryl Dosage Calculator Calculator Usage Guide

Learn how to use the Cat Benadryl Dosage Calculator and its working principles

How to Use the Calculator

  1. Enter your cat's weight in pounds (lbs)
  2. Enter your cat's age in years
  3. Select the Benadryl formulation (25mg or 50mg)
  4. Select the desired dosage frequency (1-3 times per day)
  5. Click the "Calculate" button to get the recommended dosage

Understanding the Dosage Formula

The calculator uses the standard Benadryl dosage recommendation of 0.5mg per pound of body weight per dose, divided by the number of times per day:

Dosage (mg) = (Weight in lbs ÷ 10) × Formulation mg

For example, for a 10-pound cat using the 25mg formulation once daily, the calculation would be:

Dosage = (10 ÷ 10) × 25 = 25mg per dose

Important Safety Information

  • This calculator provides general dosage recommendations only and does not substitute professional veterinary advice.
  • Benadryl should be used with caution in cats, as they can be more sensitive to the medication.
  • Always consult with your veterinarian before giving Benadryl to your cat, especially if your cat has existing health conditions.
  • Common side effects include drowsiness, dry mouth, and decreased appetite.

Formulations

The calculator supports two common Benadryl formulations:

  • 25mg tablets - Standard over-the-counter Benadryl
  • 50mg liquid - Liquid Benadryl, which may be easier to administer to cats that don't like pills
