Learn how to use the Reconstitution Calculator calculator and its working principles

How to Use the Reconstitution Calculator

  1. Enter the Stock Solution Concentration in mg/mL.
  2. Enter the Stock Solution Volume in mL.
  3. Enter the Desired Concentration in mg/mL.
  4. Click the Calculate button to determine the volume of solvent needed to achieve the desired concentration.

Working Principle

The calculator uses the formula C₁V₁ = C₂V₂, where:

  • C₁ is the stock solution concentration
  • V₁ is the stock solution volume
  • C₂ is the desired concentration
  • V₂ is the final volume (stock volume + solvent volume)

The calculator solves for the solvent volume needed to achieve the desired concentration by rearranging the formula to V₂ = (C₁V₁)/C₂ and then subtracting the stock volume from the final volume.

Example

If you have a 100 mg/mL stock solution (C₁) in a volume of 10 mL (V₁), and you want to reconstitute it to a final concentration of 20 mg/mL (C₂), the calculator will determine that you need to add 40 mL of solvent (V₂ - V₁) to achieve the desired concentration.
