Moisture Grain Calculator

This calculator helps determine the moisture content in grains per 100 grains of soil based on the weight of wet and dry soil samples.

Input Parameters

Moisture Content Calculation

Moisture Content (%) = [(Wet Soil Weight - Dry Soil Weight) / Dry Soil Weight] * 100

Where:
Wet Soil Weight = Weight of soil sample including water
Dry Soil Weight = Weight of soil sample after all water is removed

Result:
0.00 %

Moisture Grain Calculator Usage Guide

Learn how to use the Moisture Grain Calculator to determine soil moisture content.

How to Use the Moisture Grain Calculator

  1. Measure the weight of a soil sample while it contains water. This is the Wet Soil Weight.
  2. Dry the soil sample completely in an oven or another suitable drying method until all moisture is removed. Measure the weight of the dry soil. This is the Dry Soil Weight.
  3. Enter both the Wet Soil Weight and Dry Soil Weight into the calculator's input fields.
  4. Click the Calculate button to determine the moisture content of the soil.
  5. The calculator will display the moisture content as a percentage based on the formula: Moisture Content (%) = [(Wet Soil Weight - Dry Soil Weight) / Dry Soil Weight] * 100.

Understanding the Results

The moisture content percentage indicates how much of the soil's weight is due to water. For example, a moisture content of 20% means that 20% of the soil's weight is water.

Principle of the Calculator

This calculator uses the principle of mass balance to determine the moisture content. By comparing the weight of the wet soil (which includes both soil particles and water) to the weight of the dry soil (which only includes soil particles), the amount of water present can be calculated.
