This calculator helps determine the moisture content in grains per 100 grains of soil based on the weight of wet and dry soil samples.
Learn how to use the Moisture Grain Calculator to determine soil moisture content.
Moisture Content (%) = [(Wet Soil Weight - Dry Soil Weight) / Dry Soil Weight] * 100
.The moisture content percentage indicates how much of the soil's weight is due to water. For example, a moisture content of 20% means that 20% of the soil's weight is water.
This calculator uses the principle of mass balance to determine the moisture content. By comparing the weight of the wet soil (which includes both soil particles and water) to the weight of the dry soil (which only includes soil particles), the amount of water present can be calculated.
