How to Use the Calculator
- Enter your weight in kilograms.
- Specify how long you plan to shovel snow (in minutes).
- Choose the intensity level that best describes your shoveling effort:
- Light: Slow pace, not much snow, easy conditions
- Medium: Average pace, moderate snow depth and density
- Heavy: Fast pace, deep snow, challenging conditions
- Select the type of snow you're shoveling:
- Dry Snow: Light, powdery snow
- Wet Snow: Heavy, dense snow that's difficult to lift
- Powder Snow: Light, fluffy snow that requires more effort to move
- Click the "Calculate" button to estimate calories burned.
- The result will show the approximate number of calories you've burned based on your inputs.
Understanding the Calculation
The calculator uses the following formula to estimate calories burned:
Calories = (MET × Weight × Duration) / 200
Where MET stands for Metabolic Equivalent of Task, which represents the energy cost of physical activities. A higher MET value means more calories are burned per minute.
Important Notes
- This calculator provides an estimate based on average values. Actual calorie burn may vary based on individual factors.
- Shoveling snow is physically demanding work that can be strenuous, especially if you're not used to it.
- Always warm up before shoveling and take breaks as needed.
- Consider consulting with a doctor before starting any new physical activity, especially if you have health concerns.
