Understanding the Results
The calculator provides two main results:
- Total BTU Required: This is the total cooling capacity needed for your room based on the input parameters.
- Recommended AC Unit Size: This is the recommended size of the air conditioner unit in BTU. It is rounded to the nearest 12,000 BTU increment, which is a common size for residential air conditioners.
Important Notes
The calculator uses the following formula to determine the BTU required:
BTU = (Room Area × Room Height × Factor for Insulation × Factor for Sun Exposure × Factor for Windows) + (People Count × 400)
Where:
- Room Area: Area of the room in square feet
- Room Height: Height of the room in feet
- Factor for Insulation: Multiplier based on insulation level
- Factor for Sun Exposure: Multiplier based on sun exposure
- Factor for Windows: Multiplier based on number of windows
- People Count: Number of people in the room
This calculator provides a general guideline for selecting an air conditioner. For more specific recommendations, consult with a HVAC professional.
