Learn how to use the Survey Length Calculator and its working principles

How to Use the Calculator

  1. Enter the total number of questions in your survey in the "Number of Questions" field.
  2. Enter the average time (in minutes) you estimate it will take respondents to answer one question in the "Average Time per Question" field.
  3. Click the "Calculate" button to get the estimated total survey time.
  4. The calculator will display the total time in minutes and in hours and minutes format.

Working Principle

The calculator uses a simple formula to estimate the total survey time:

Total Survey Time (minutes) = Number of Questions × Average Time per Question (minutes)

This helps you understand if your survey is too long for respondents to complete in one sitting and if any adjustments are needed.

Example

If you have a survey with 20 questions and you estimate that it takes respondents an average of 2 minutes per question, the calculator will show:

  • Total Survey Time: 40 minutes
  • Estimated Time: 0 hours and 40 minutes

This information can help you plan your survey distribution and follow-up strategies effectively.
