How to Use the Percent Yield Calculator

  1. Enter the Actual Yield (the amount of product you actually obtained from your reaction in grams).
  2. Enter the Theoretical Yield (the maximum amount of product that could be obtained based on stoichiometry in grams).
  3. Click the Calculate button to compute the Percent Yield.
  4. The calculator will display the Percent Yield as a percentage.

Understanding Percent Yield

Percent yield is a measure of how efficient a chemical reaction is. It compares the actual amount of product obtained to the theoretical maximum amount that could be produced.

The formula for percent yield is:

Percent Yield = (Actual Yield / Theoretical Yield) × 100%

A percent yield of 100% means the reaction was perfectly efficient, while a lower percent yield indicates some product was lost during the reaction.

Example Calculation

Suppose you performed a reaction that theoretically could produce 50 grams of product (theoretical yield). After conducting the reaction, you found that you actually obtained 45 grams of product (actual yield).

Percent Yield = (45 g / 50 g) × 100% = 90%

This means your reaction was 90% efficient.
