Calculation Formula

Yield Strength (σ_y) = Stress (σ) / Strain (ε)

Where:
σ_y = Yield Strength (Pa)
σ = Stress (Pa)
ε = Strain

Learn how to use the Yield Strength Calculator calculator and its working principles

How to Use the Yield Strength Calculator

  1. Enter the stress value in Pascals (Pa) in the "Stress (σ) (Pa)" field.
  2. Enter the strain value in the "Strain (ε)" field.
  3. Click the "Calculate" button to compute the yield strength.
  4. The result will be displayed in the "Yield Strength (σ_y) (Pa)" field.

Working Principle

The yield strength of a material is calculated by dividing the stress by the strain. Stress is the force applied per unit area, and strain is the deformation or displacement of the material in response to the stress.

Example

If a material experiences a stress of 200,000 Pa (200 MPa) and a strain of 0.002, the yield strength would be calculated as follows:

Yield Strength (σ_y) = 200,000 Pa / 0.002 = 100,000,000 Pa (100 GPa)
