Run Rate Calculation

Run rate will be displayed here

Where:
Run Rate = (Target Score - Current Score) / (Overs Remaining × 6) [if balls remaining is 0]
Run Rate = (Target Score - Current Score) / (Balls Remaining) [if balls remaining is not 0]

Required Run Rate

Required run rate will be displayed here

Where:
Required Run Rate = (Target Score - Current Score) / (Total Balls Remaining)

Understanding Run Rate

Run rate is a crucial metric in cricket that indicates how many runs a team is scoring per over or per ball. It helps in setting realistic targets and planning strategies.

Formula Used

The calculator uses the following formula to calculate run rate:

Run Rate = (Target Score - Current Score) / Total Balls Remaining

Where Total Balls Remaining is calculated as:

  • In overs format: Overs Remaining × 6 + (1 if there's a fractional over, 0 otherwise)
  • In balls format: Balls Remaining

Example

Suppose your team has scored 200 runs in 30 overs of a 50-over match, and the target is 300 runs. To calculate your required run rate:

  1. Current Score = 200
  2. Target Score = 300
  3. Overs Remaining = 20
  4. Balls Remaining = 0
  5. Wickets Lost = 0

Total balls remaining = 20 overs × 6 balls/over = 120 balls

Runs needed = 300 - 200 = 100 runs

Required run rate = 100 runs / 120 balls = 0.833 runs per ball (or 5 runs per over)
