A higher sack rate typically indicates a more dominant defense, as it shows that defenders are successfully penetrating the offensive line to disrupt the quarterback's ability to throw the ball accurately. Most professional quarterbacks aim for a sack rate below 10% during a season.

Example Calculation

For example, if a quarterback has 50 sacks in 300 pass attempts, the sack rate would be calculated as follows:

Sack Rate = (50 / 300) × 100% = 16.67%

This would indicate that the quarterback was sacked approximately 16.67% of the time during the season, which is generally considered a relatively high sack rate and suggests the quarterback faced significant pressure from the defense.
