Understanding Batting Average

Batting average (BA) is a measure of a batter's performance. It represents the percentage of at-bats that result in a hit. The formula is:

BA = Hits ÷ At Bats

A higher batting average indicates better performance. In Major League Baseball, a .300 batting average is generally considered good, while .400 is exceptionally rare and impressive.

Example

If a player has 300 at-bats and gets 100 hits, their batting average would be:

BA = 100 ÷ 300 = 0.333

This means the player gets a hit 33.3% of the time they are at bat.
