Convert FM radio frequencies (in MHz) to channel numbers based on the North American FM band plan (88-108 MHz).
Learn how to use the Frequency to FM Channel Number Converter calculator and its working principles
The North American FM band is divided into 100 channels, each spanning 200 kHz (0.2 MHz). The calculation is based on the formula:
Channel Number = ⌊(Frequency - 88) × 100⌋
This formula works by first normalizing the frequency range (88-108 MHz) to a 0-20 scale, then rounding down to the nearest whole number.
For an FM frequency of 98.1 MHz:
Channel Number = ⌊(98.1 - 88) × 100⌋ = ⌊(10.1 × 100)⌋ = ⌊1010⌋ = 1010
This corresponds to channel number 1010, which falls in the range 101-108.
This calculator uses the North American FM band plan (88.0-108.0 MHz). It does not account for different band plans used in other countries.
