Calculation Formula

ΔT = BTU / (Mass × Specific Heat Capacity)

Where:
ΔT = Temperature Change (°F)
BTU = Heat Energy (BTU)
Mass = Mass of the substance (lbs)
Specific Heat Capacity = Specific heat capacity of the material (BTU/lbs°F)

Learn how to use the BTU to Fahrenheit conversion calculator and its working principles

How to Use the Calculator

  1. Enter the amount of heat energy (BTU) in the first input field.
  2. Enter the mass of the material in pounds (lbs) in the second input field.
  3. Enter the specific heat capacity of the material in BTU/lbs°F. For water, it is approximately 1. For other materials, you can look up the specific heat capacity value.
  4. Click the "Calculate" button to compute the temperature change in Fahrenheit.
  5. The result will be displayed in the "Result" section.

Working Principle

The calculator uses the formula: ΔT = BTU / (Mass × Specific Heat Capacity). This formula calculates the temperature change (ΔT) in degrees Fahrenheit when a certain amount of heat energy (BTU) is applied to a substance of a given mass and specific heat capacity.

Example

If you apply 100 BTU of heat energy to 10 lbs of water (specific heat capacity = 1 BTU/lbs°F), the temperature change will be:

ΔT = 100 BTU / (10 lbs × 1 BTU/lbs°F) = 10°F
